Stanton Degregorio: German auto engineering and quality is world-class renown and superlative despite what owners of Hondas and Toyotas may tout.German cars require and are deserving of vigilant maintenance and care. We have a lot invested in these machines. Why wouldn't we take the time and resources required to keep them in top condition? In Japan, BMWs, M-Benz, Audi, and Porsche are all clamored after by Japanese. They dream of owning one of them over their own Lexus, Infinity, or Acura. They know that in mass-market auto production, nothing can top a German marque.@C7S - your friend has feathers for brains if he accepted that at 72k miles, the factory's recommended maintenance was a "complete engine rebuild"! What did he provide in the way of maintenance up until those 72k miles were clocked? No reaction on the experience of your uncles other than perhaps they're plagued by incredibly bad luck....Show more
Shelley Stevens: To the point of all the negative p! ublicity German vehicles get, in particular the BMW.. If their engineering and quality is so superb and advanced and exceeds everyone else's, why do they need so much maintenance? Isn't the ultimate goal to get the most out of your vehicle without high cost of repair. Had my Lexus GS 430 (V8) for over 10 yrs now.. 230k on the dash, insane power and still drives like new. In all the years I had the pleasure of driving my car, I have only had to replace the fuel pump n do general maintenance.. not even the radiator has gone out yet! Had a 2000 BMW... Died as soon as I paid it off!! GERMAN WHO, WHAT ..temperamental pieces of CRAP.. Don't believe the hype!!...Show more
Jill Thomer: your out of your mind to say a BMW is not high maintenance, never ever had a car that was broken most of the time, its pretty much like, what s the next problem gonna be, HP fuel pump, water pump, front axle, broken shocks and the list goes on and on, i m afraid to go to far with this car cause! i m worried it won t make it, yes sure i have the 6 with twin! turbos, and no this is not a very old car, many of the repairs were done under warranty, the dash board computer has a mind of its own, the TPMS doesn t work when its cold out the brakes are constantly noisy even after a new brake job, problem is with the emergency brakes and something rubbing against the dust shield, nothing anyone cares to address under the warranty or out of warranty....Show more
Leora Klingelhoets: My friend "was" an owner of a 2006 BMW M3 E46 with the S52 engine. It needed a complete rebuild at 72,000 miles. He said the rebuilt was part of the recommended maintenance schedule by BMW??? I'm not sure if I believe that myself. He did not drive it fast because he "stanced" it. Parts for engine repair was $1000 and labor was not mentioned. My Uncle. 2002 BMW 325xi. 100,000 miles now. He spent $4000 in repairs since he bought it 3 years ago. That $4000 includes new lower control arms, new bushings, new shocks and struts, new O2 sensors, new tires and b! rakes and rotors. He basically needed a complete suspension overhaul, which is usuallly associated with cars that have 200,000+ miles. Car dealerships I worked at. 2007 BMW 7 series with 35,000 miles. It overheated and needed a new thermostat. Other Uncle. BMW X5. Can you believe how much those huge X5 tires cost? I can buy an older used BMW 323 for that price. From what I heard, the E39 BMW 5 series is the most reliable and most affordable BMW to own and maintain. I have only heard good things about them and they drive nice too. I also heard good things about the RWD E46 328i and 330i's, but bad things about the AWD xi's, 325's, and M's. Don't get me wrong. I do like BMW's, especially the older 5 series. But the reliability and maintenance of a car depends on the person, and how they drive it, and how lucky they are. I am sure in most cases, people still spend lots of money on BMW's, otherwise, a rumor that BMW's are expensive to own would not exist....Show more
May! nard Phoubandith: I've been owning a 2001 BMW 330XI for 3 years now and! I haven't paid that much in repairs since I bough it.Even the small repairs that I did such as the brakes, oil, valve, battery are well worth it.I will rather spend money on that BMW than any Japanese ****.People that are complaining about the repairs are people that never had a German car in their live and they only trust the dumb people that own Japanese cars.Just leave them they will all realise one day that nothing beats German quality....Show more
