Question about rail dust?

Fannie Collingwood: wash and wax.... you had it a month... sorry but you neeed to live with it.... or talk with the comapny not the dealer

Maria Bengston: No, I don't live near an industrial railway or work near one

Ollie Desalvo: I worked at a dealership for over 13 yrs. Customer satisfaction should be #1...Show more

Ester Bryand: Yes, the plastic that covers the cars does not always work. You can fight this. You also need to check you warranty details. The usual one states that you should be 100% satisfied, or you can bring the car back within a certain time frame.

Dalia Causby: I would expect that legally, you have lost your window of opportunity to pursue the issue with the dealership. You would need to consult a lawyer for your jurisdiction to determine whether or not you have any legal standing. However, you should be able to file a claim with your insurance company for repair to the paint so all may not be lost. I got my car repainted due to! "acid rain" but that was many years ago. It's going to depend on the type of policy you have and the exclusions as to whether or not they'll cover that type of damage. One last option you might want to pursue with the dealership is to call the consumer relations (or equivalent department) office of the car manufacturer and file a complaint with them. They have a lot of influence over dealerships and might be able to get the dealership to cover the problem....Show more

Dan Seen: Personally,I would take it to a detail shop and have them make it nice again.Trying to prove how and why it happened is futile.Mostly because it wasn't apparent when the car was delivered makes it look as though something happened to it later in life.It really isn't a big deal anyway, all cars need buffing and waxing as normal maintenance.

Virgil Menefee: Depending on where the rail dust has settled on the car, it could be from brake material if it's behind the wheels. If it's all over on ! top of the car, I'd suspect it's brake dust or fallout but fal! lout or acid rain is usually a different composition...it does not produce rust specs. Rail dust can take some time to appear if the car was recently shipped by train or stored in a railyard when you bought it and the weather conditions...sunny or rainy... although the plastic coating should have prevented it from happening....depends on how much of the car was covered. Do you live near an industrial plant or railway? I would have another dealer or bodyshop inspect it or ask to speak to the area zone rep from the manufacturer.A good detail shop can remove it with buffing, claybar or oxalic acid (wood bleach)http://www.sherwin-automotive.com/reference/troubl......Show more

Wilbur Marksberry: I've tried washing and waxing (done at a detail shop). It comes back in a week or so.
