Did I get ripped off? (car audio)?

Ira Porietis: No, not ripped, but it wasn't a bargain. The Sony MEX-XB100BT is the most powerful head unit made. Good choice. Retail at a discount shop: $230. At full list, $370. The 4x6" Phoenix Gold speakers retail for $80 a pair. The 6x9's retail for $160 a pair. Total plus wiring kit and dash bezel plus tax, over $500 At a national discount retailer you might have paid $100 less.with free shopping and no tax. Depending what you drive, paying around $400 for labor is a somewhat high price for installation, but it isn't outrageous and some cars can be quite challenging when it comes to rear deck speaker replacement. And, if they're a reputable company, you've probably got solid warranty they'll stand behind. That's good for peace of mind....Show more

Madie Strople: UPDATE: Apparantly I forgot to include what I paid, really sorry. I paid $900.

Ramon Dahlheimer: Next time get it done in Mexico. Parts and installation much cheaper. The shipping will kill yo! u though.

Providencia Serpe: YOU GOT WHAT YOU ASK FOR AND PAID FOR,SOUNDS GOOD TO ME, JUST ENJOY IT

Alberto Kozub: In order for anyone to figure this out, we'd need to know what you paid for the gear and for the installation. Since you failed to tell us what you paid for either, there is no way to answer you. Think before you ask....Show more

Jose Calaycay: n/a

Brian Freedland: Price aside there is no 4x6 speaker made that sounds good. One mistake you avoided was to at least buy it at the shop that installed it. At least when something goes wrong you have removal and reinstallation of the malfunctioning equipment covered which you wouldn't if you bought the equipment through a mail order business.

Vernon Martorana: What did you pay?

Ismael Sixon: Probably about the going rate if you're getting all your equipment and installation at a specialty shop. Possibly a little on the high side but if they can't make some money they can't keep t! heir business open.HU is pricey since Sony is the only brand t! hat has a 40x4 HU. $230 internet price.4x6's don't look like anything special. They don't sell them on line in US so it's hard to check prices, but I found them on a UK site for around $60 USD. 6x9's are apparently $120 ish. So you have $400 or so in HU and speakers. I'm sure you're paying a little mark up on that so maybe $500.Then you have install costs -- I'd appx. $50 for HU, and $50 for each set of speakers taking it up to $650 or so. Then you have wiring, dash kit, HU wire harness -- probably another $50.Then there's $~80 for sales tax and you're getting pretty close.Doesn't seem like a bargain by any means, but hopefully they did good work and will take care of you if there are any problems down the road....Show more
