Loise Mausser: No. Social Security benefits are paid out of the social security trust fund - not general tax revenues. The last time there was a shutdown Congress made it very clear that social security benefits will not be affected by any shutdowns - no matter how long those shutdown may be.It has affected services and employees though. The local/district social security offices are open and the employees are working - without pay - which makes them ineligible for unemployment unlike those employees who have been furloughed. It's going to create a hardship for those employees who live from one paycheck to the next. It takes awhile to find it but there is a list at ssa.gov which itemizes the services which will continue to be performed by social security. They will NOT be processing applications for new or replacement social security cards, replacement Medicare cards or benefit verifications - to name the most common services. If it isn't on the list of what they w! ill do then it isn't going to get done....Show more
Idell Syed: i am glad social security is not going to be affected because there are billions and billions disability and ppl that are unemploye needing ssi for a reason. It is not like they trying steal money. I been working with them ..they told me how complication it is. You should be there. They can easily die next day if no money like welfare or ssi. Since welfare is closed, I am glad ssi is still opening so that poor mothers can take it up for some helpings. It is only a stealing if a person has two of ssi w/o telling social secutity. I know a person that has two and never tell a soul or social security rep....Show more
